Seismic monitoring of Enhanced Geothermal Systems
Overview: Enhanced Geothermal Systems use hydraulic stimulation to create and develop paths for fluid circulation that allow the exploitation of geothermal resources in contexts where natural circulation does not make it feasible. Imaging the developed fracture network is crucial for a successful job, as is the control and mitigation of the risk of inducing seismic events that could potentially impact the surface and neighbouring infrastructure. This course covers the processes from seismic monitoring that allow the monitoring of these operations:
- Baseline analysis
- Seismic array design
- Seismic and Microseismic monitoring:
- Event detection and harvesting
- Event location
- Seismic parameters
- Induced seismicity
- Fracture network analysis: fracture network geometry, event clustering and fracture connectivity
The course will be delivered online and includes hands-on tutorials, handouts in electronic format and a 7-day licence of InSite-HF. This is a one (1) day course split over two (2) days, Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th of December 2021; sessions will be 13:00 to 17:00 (GMT) on both days.
